Black Bear – How it all beganBeing former top athletes, both realised that sugar, wafers and syrups should not be in their product. Instead, the ingredients should be natural and organic and promote good health.
Their journey took them into the Peruvian Andes. The Maca root (Lepidium meyenii) is found at altitudes of up to 4,000 metres above sea level. It is highly acclaimed and used by the native population. The two friends, having listened to the legends about the root and having been enticed by the prospect of its careful harvesting- and processing, realised that they had found their ingredient.
And the adventure continued to the almonds of Southern Spain, to the sweet cherries of the Caucasus, to the dates of Arabia, to the cranberries of the Canadian Bush and to the cashews of India. Wherever they went, it was their highest priority that the natural ingredients they found were to be pure. That is the best way to ensure the healthy ingredients. At the end of the day, there was only one small detail missing: the additional flavour.
Salt. But, this could not be a refined industrial salt. Instead, it had to be a high value salt, gained in the form of entire crystals from the Himalayas.
And so the work was completed.
In an analogy to the final ingredient, and as a reminder of the airy heights of the mountains where the idea first occurred to them, the two friends named their Organic Energy Bar after the Himalayan Black Bear – a unique powerful animal, symbolising strength and naturalness.
